Requests continue to grow for our Prevention Team’s expertise in helping public bodies develop more fair practices and complaints handling procedures. Our staff is available to meet with public sector employees to consult on new programs or policies, or provide assistance with ongoing complaints handling procedures. We have been working with a number of public organizations over the past few months, including the Mental Health Review Board, the BC Coroners Service, BC health authorities, various provincial government ministries and the British Columbia Utilities Commission, to name a few, who have found our advice and guidance helpful.
“We found the information to be very useful – thanks in advance and in general for the important work you do on behalf of British Columbians.” – BC Coroners Service
“I have no doubt this will open up more dialogue on our mutual cases and situations and we look forward to those. I suspect other ministries and agencies will benefit from this kind of approach and discussion.” – Patient Care Quality Working Group
The Prevention Team continues to offer our Fairness in Practice workshops with a schedule of upcoming workshops this fall in Victoria, Vancouver and Prince George. These workshops offer a full day of cross-sector learning about administrative fairness principles, providing participants with an opportunity to learn more about the role of our office and how to support staff in delivering their services fairly to the public. Please watch for our upcoming workshop schedule on our website, as well as the launch of our online training program coming soon. Our educational webinar series will also resume in October with a focus on statutory decision making. Sign up to receive notifications of these upcoming events here or email us directly at consult@bcombudsperson.ca for more information on how we can help.
