On April 13, 1993 Premier Harcourt announced his government’s decision for land use within Ctayoquot Sound. This decision was the provincial government’s response to the long-standing conflict over the manner in which this region’s land and resources should be managed. However, the decision itself is now the focus of local, national and even international controversy and interest.
After receiving a number of concerns from citizens regarding various aspects of the land use decision, the Ombudsman decided it was in the public interest to initiate an investigation into the process leading up to the announcement of the Clayoquot Sound Land Use Decision.
