Case Summaries

Case summaries help tell the story of how the Ombudsperson helps to ensure B.C. public authorities have acted fairly and reasonably – and whether the actions and decisions of those authorities are consistent with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.

The case summaries available online represent only a fraction of the work conducted by the Office of the Ombudsperson and are selected from the more than 1,000 investigations completed yearly, covering a wide spectrum of complaints and investigations.

The case summaries are grouped by subject theme and describe the outcomes of Ombudsperson investigations, which may include a range of remedies to address unfairness including new hearings or re-assessments, improved access to benefits, reimbursement of expenses, enhanced policies or procedures and better explanation of decisions.
