2015/2016 Annual Report

The Office of the Ombudsperson’s Annual Report details a year’s work upholding administrative fairness and safeguarding the fundamentals of good governance across B.C.’s more than 2,800 provincial and local public authorities.

The Ombudsperson has statutory authority from the legislature to impartially serve all British Columbians. This year, 7,849 people came forward confidentially with inquiries and concerns.
In 2015/16, the Ombudsperson and staff provided impartial and independent oversight resolving complaints with a wide range of provincial public authorities including provincial government ministries, Crown corporations, commissions, boards, local governments, health authorities, professional regulatory bodies, schools and universities. In the case summaries provided we report on investigations that resulted in apologies, improved policies, training, refunded fees and, of course, improved delivery of provincial public services.
